 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS & ANSWERS ON DRIVESHAFT REPAIRS

 

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

  • IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO GIVE AN ACCURATE QUOTE OVER THE PHONE OR EVEN JUST LOOKING AT THE SHAFT.

  • WE DO NOT REPLACE ALL THE COMPONENTS, BUT ONLY THOSE THAT ARE DAMAGED, UNLESS THE CLIENT INSISTS.

  • THE CLIENT USUALLY MAKES AN APPOINTMENT TO BRING IN THE VEHICLE IN UNLESS IT IS AN EMERGENCY AND WE CAN IMMEDIATELY ATTEND TO IT.

  • WE USUALLY ACCOMPANY THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE ON A DRIVE TO DETERMINE WHAT IS POSSIBLY WRONG.

  • THE DRIVESHAFT WILL BE INSPECTED ON THE VEHICLE.

  • THE DRIVE SHAFT/S IS REMOVED, FULLY INSPECTED TO GIVE A MORE ACCURATE QUOTE.

  • PLEASE NOTE: AFTER THE SHAFT HAS BEEN TAKEN OFF THE VEHICLE & INSPECTED & THE QUOTATION HAS BEEN MADE, THE CUSTOMER WILL BE LIABLE FOR REMOVE & FITMENT COST, IF HE/SHE DOES NOT EXCEPT THE QUOTATION.

  • AFTER ALL THE DAMAGED COMPONENTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND THE COMPLETE SHAFT IS INSERTED INTO THE  MACHINE WE WOULD BE ABLE TO DETECT IF THE SHAFT MAY BE BENT. IF THIS IS THE CASE THERE MAY BE AN EXTRA UNFORESEEN COSTS DEPENDING ON WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE.

  • UNIVERSAL JOINTS & SERVICE PARTS SUPPLIED BY US, MUST BE GREASED CORRECTLY EVERY 8 000 - 10 000 KM (VEHICLES) OR 80 – 100 HOURS (IMPLEMENTS OR MACHINES) WITH A LITHIUM BASED GREASE, AS REQUIRED BY OUR SUPPLIER.

 

DO YOU HAVE ALL THE PARTS?

  • WE STOCK A LARGE VARIETY OF COMPONENTS FROM DIFFERENT MAKES & MODELS OF VEHICLES, IMPLEMENTS &    MACHINES ETC. IF WE DO NOT HAVE IT, WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET IT FROM OUR SUPPLIERS (IF STOCK IS AVAILABLE) WITHIN A DAY OR TWO.

 

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

  • DEPENDING ON HOW BUSY WE ARE AND WHAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED/REPAIRED, THE AVERAGE RECOVERY TIME IS APPROXIMATELY 2.5 TO 3 HOURS.

  • ALL OUR CONTACT DETAILS, WORKING HOURS ETC. CAN BE FOUND ON OUR WEBSITE UNDER CONTACT US.

 

ONLY BALANCING MUST BE DONE!

  • WE PREFER THAT THE CLIENT BRING THE VEHICLE IN, WE DETERMINE WHY THE DRIVESHAFT IS OUT OF BALANCE, REPAIR IT AND THEN MAKE SURE THE DRIVE SHAFT IS BALANCED.

  • WE HAVE HAD MANY PEOPLE UNINTENTIONAL DAMAGE THE DRIVE SHAFT OR LEAVE PARTS OUT WHILE WORKING ON IT  THEMSELVES. THE DAMAGED PARTS NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED/REPLACED FIRST BEFORE BALANCING CAN COMMENCE. THE COSTS CAN BE MORE THAN IT INITIALLY WOULD HAVE BEEN OTHERWISE.

  • WHILE INSPECTING THE DRIVESHAFT ON THE VEHICLE, THE GEARBOX AND DIFF PLAY ETC. IS ALSO INSPECTED FREE OF CHARGE.

  • IF ANY FAULT IS FOUND, THE CLIENT IS IMMEDIATELY NOTIFIED TO TRY PREVENT ANY FURTHER DAMAGE.

  • A PERSON WORKING ON A DRIVE SHAFT MUST BE QUALIFIED & HAVE EXPERIENCE TO DETECT FAILURES & FAULTS IN ORDER TO PROLONG THE LIFESPAN OF THE PARTS.

  • A DRIVE SHAFT IS AN EXTREMELY IMPORTANT COMPONENT THAT ROTATES AT A VERY HIGH SPEED AND, IF IT IS NOT  WORKING 100% CORRECTLY, CAN SHORTEN THE LIFESPAN OF THE COMPONENTS AND ALSO BE LIFE-THREATENING.

 

CAN I SUPPLY MY OWN PARTS?

  • PARTS SUPPLIED BY CLIENTS WILL BE FITTED AT A COST.

  • FAULTY OR POOR QUALITY PARTS IS THE CLIENTS OWN RESPONSIBILITY.

  • NO GUARANTEE ON PARTS SUPPLIED BY CLIENTS.

WORD OF ADVICE

  • IF THE VEHICLE PROP SHAFT IS VIBRATING OR DAMAGED & YOU DO NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO REPAIR IT IMMEDIATELY.

  • DO NOT KEEP ON DRIVING, THIS WILL CAUSE MORE DAMAGE TO THE PROP SHAFT & COMPONENTS. 

  • EVENTUALLY IT CAN DAMAGE THE GEARBOX AS WELL AS THE DIFF LEAVING YOU STRANDED UNEXPECTEDLY.

  • ULTIMATELY IT WILL COST MUCH MORE TO REPAIR DUE TO ALL THE OTHER DAMAGES.

  • WORST CASE SCENARIO ... A DAMAGED PROP SHAFT CAN CAUSE A FATAL ACCIDENT TO HAPPEN.
